Do you spend more time thinking about the future or the past? Why?
For a long time, my mind lived almost entirely in the future.
What if something goes wrong?
What if I feel anxious later?
What if I can’t cope?
Anxiety has a way of pulling us forward into imagined moments that haven’t happened yet — and then convincing us they already have.
At the same time, I’ve also spent stretches of my life stuck in the past, replaying things I wish I’d handled differently or moments when anxiety felt overwhelming.
What I’m learning now is that both places — the past and the future — can quietly steal the present.
These days, I try to gently bring myself back to now.
Not perfectly. Not all the time.
Just enough to remind myself that this moment is usually safer than my thoughts make it seem.
If you struggle with this too, you’re not broken — you’re human. And you’re not alone. 🌿

“both places — the past and the future — can quietly steal the present.” – yes I think that’s very true! I don’t believe I ever really thought of it that way. When I was younger, I definitely thought much more about the future, but now I probably think more about NOW OR THE PAST? Maybe that’s because my future is getting shorter every day??? Don’t really know but thanks for sharing that!
That’s such a real observation. I think a lot of us start out living in the future, and somewhere along the way the present (and even the past) asks for more attention.
