If I could un-invent something, it would be the idea that we’re supposed to be available all the time.
Available to reply instantly.
Available to explain ourselves.
Available to keep up.
Available even when we’re exhausted.
Somehow, being busy became a badge of honor.
Being tired became normal.
And needing rest started to feel like a weakness.
I don’t think our nervous systems were built for this.
Not the constant notifications.
Not the endless comparison.
Not the pressure to always be “on.”
Especially not for people who live with anxiety.
There was a time when a slow day didn’t feel wrong.
When you could disappear for a while without guilt.
When rest didn’t need justification.
Now, even silence feels loud.
If you feel overwhelmed easily…
Anxious without a clear reason…
Or drained by things that shouldn’t feel this heavy…
You’re not broken.
You’re responding to a world that never stops.
This is something I talk about often on my blog — how anxiety affects the nervous system and why modern life keeps it stuck in overdrive.
If you ever need something grounding to read, Helping You Cope is always there for you 🌿
What I’m slowly learning is that I don’t need permission to rest.
I don’t need to explain my boundaries.
And I don’t need to be constantly reachable to be enough.
So I’m un-inventing it in small ways.
I mute notifications.
I step back without apologizing.
I choose slower moments when I can.
And I remind myself that peace is not laziness.
No pressure. No fixing. Just support when you need it most.

I’m definitely not available all the time. I almost never answer my phone for one thing. Why? Because I’d rather they leave a message and I get to think about what to say before phoning back! This is especially for clients because they are usually calling because they need to switch days or times and I don’t want to be “caught” on the phone and then expecting a specific answer immediately! This way I can research my answer on my own schedule!
Super smart! Makes perfect sense to me!
Thank you!
