Daily writing prompt
Name an attraction or town close to home that you still haven’t got around to visiting.

One place close to home that I still haven’t made it to — but really want to — is Jasper, Alberta. It’s not a huge trek, yet it feels like a completely different world.

The towering mountains, crystal-clear lakes like Maligne and Pyramid, endless hiking trails, waterfalls, wildlife roaming freely, and some of the darkest night skies in the world for stargazing… it honestly looks unreal. The idea of breathing in that fresh mountain air, unplugging from everything, and just being surrounded by nature sounds so refreshing.

Jasper feels like the kind of place where your nervous system finally exhales — peaceful, grounding, and absolutely breathtaking. It’s high on my list, and I know when I finally go, it’ll be one of those trips I never forget.

  1. OMG!….love that prompt. I once called Jasper home (and yes the fires made me cry)..we visited a lot as a family growing up, but in 1979 I got to move there…as a 18 something it was where my life began to change for the better, getting away from a toxic life in Edmonton…but love the place. not as commercial or as packed at Banff (though I do live Banff/Canmore as well now) but Jasper is a working town…railroaders (like me) parks people…I think tourists liked that too, it’s a place where people live….but hiking, the hot springs in Miette, oddly enough I never skied, and only made my way up to the ski hill to hike and bike in the summer….but you should go. and now you’ve got me thinking of my next blog!..more memories about my life working in the CN station in Jasper

    1. I’d love to go there. I’ve heard so many great things about it. I’ve drove passed on the highway and seen all the animals as you go through but I’ve never actually been inside. The fires were devastating, it’s been one of the places that everyone always talked about
