There are moments in life that quietly shape you…
And then there are moments that crack you open and rebuild you from the inside out.
When I look back, I don’t think it was the “easy” seasons that helped me grow the most.
It was the messy ones.
The painful ones.
The ones I never would have chosen—but somehow changed me anyway.
Here are the experiences that shaped me the most, and what they taught me along the way.
🌿 Going Through Mental Health Struggles
Living with anxiety and learning to manage my mental health has been one of the biggest growth experiences of my life.
There were times I felt broken.
Times I wondered why simple things felt so hard.
Times I thought, “Why can’t I just be normal?”
But over time, I learned something powerful:
I wasn’t weak.
I was human.
My struggles forced me to slow down.
To learn what my body and mind were trying to tell me.
To become compassionate with myself instead of constantly pushing myself past my limits.
Mental health challenges taught me empathy.
Not just for others—but for myself.
And that changed everything.
🌿 Learning to Set Boundaries
For a long time, I believed being “strong” meant doing everything for everyone.
Saying yes when I wanted to say no.
Staying quiet when I was hurting.
Putting myself last because I didn’t want to disappoint anyone.
But that version of strength was slowly burning me out.
Learning to set boundaries was uncomfortable at first.
It felt selfish.
It felt wrong.
But it taught me that protecting my peace is not a flaw—it’s wisdom.
Setting boundaries helped me grow into someone who respects their own limits.
Someone who understands that rest is productive.
Someone who knows that saying no can be an act of self-respect.
🌿 Going Through Seasons of Loss and Letting Go
Loss comes in many forms.
Sometimes it’s losing people.
Sometimes it’s losing versions of yourself you thought you’d always be.
Sometimes it’s letting go of dreams that no longer fit who you’ve become.
Letting go taught me that growth doesn’t always look like gaining something new.
Sometimes growth is about releasing what no longer serves you.
It taught me that grief isn’t a weakness.
It’s proof that something mattered.
And it reminded me that even when things fall apart, I am still allowed to rebuild.
🌿 Realizing I Don’t Have to Have It All Figured Out
One of the biggest lies I believed growing up was that adults have life figured out.
Spoiler alert: we don’t.
Learning to be okay with not having all the answers has been a huge part of my growth.
It taught me to stop waiting for the “perfect” moment to begin healing.
To stop comparing my timeline to everyone else’s.
To trust that growth is happening—even when it feels slow.
You’re allowed to be a work in progress.
You’re allowed to change your mind.
You’re allowed to evolve.
Growth isn’t a destination.
It’s a process.
🌿 Choosing to Keep Going
There were seasons where simply continuing felt like a victory.
Not thriving.
Not crushing goals.
Just… surviving.
And honestly? That counts.
Choosing to keep going on hard days built resilience in me.
It taught me that strength doesn’t always roar.
Sometimes it whispers: “Try again tomorrow.”
And sometimes, that’s more than enough.
💚 Final Thoughts
The experiences that helped me grow the most weren’t glamorous.
They didn’t look like success stories at the time.
They looked like uncertainty, fear, healing, and learning to be kinder to myself.
If you’re in a hard season right now, I hope you remember this:
You don’t have to “be strong” all the time.
You don’t have to have it all figured out.
You just have to keep showing up for yourself—one small step at a time.
Growth is happening, even when it feels invisible.
And you’re doing better than you think. 🌱

The distinction between moments that quietly shape you and those that crack you open entirely is a really accurate description of how growth actually works. Most people only talk about the big dramatic shifts, but it’s the quiet shapings that accumulate and build who you are over time. Looking forward to reading the full piece. These honest reflections on personal growth are some of the most valuabel things you can share.
Thank you so much! ☺️
I don’t look for much anything to be “easier!” I suppose it might feel good, in the moment, on a busy day to go the easier route but when all is said and done, I feel that when I choose an easier way I almost always don’t like the final outcome. Thanks!
100%! The easy way is not always the best way!
Especially if we are “open” to learning from the more difficult situations!
Yea definitely! Many people aren’t like that for sure
Especially if we are open to learning from the more difficult situations…
Jesus is the reason we’re able to face the impossible every day
Thank you for sharing your perspective 🤍 I appreciate you taking the time to read and comment!
You’re so welcome, Megan, and the Lord bless you!
