I used to think because I could still get up, go to work, and smile through my day, my anxiety ” wasn’t that bad.” But high functioning anxiety is real and it’s often invisible,
On the outside, you look like you have everything together. On the inside, you are holding it all by a thread. Sound familiar?
Here’s what I’ve learned about living with high functioning anxiety and how to start finding balance.
- You Push Yourself Past Empty
You keep saying ” I’m fine”, even when you’re not. That constant pressure leads to burnout.
- You Tie Your Worth To Productivity
You feel guilty resting or slowing down. Anxiety convinces you that doing less means you’re failing.
- You Hide Your Struggles
Because you’re capable, people assume you’re okay. But pretending takes energy and deepens the loneliness.
It’s okay to be capable and anxious. Strength isn’t pretending you’re fine; it’s admitting when you need care.
Daily affirmation:
” I am allowed to rest, even when I am capable.”
I used to appear perfectly fine on the outside, even when I was struggling inside. I opened up about that part of my story in Living With Anxiety for 20 Years — What I Wish Someone Told Me Sooner.
