Some mornings, the hardest part isn’t getting out of bed.

It’s the expectation that you should feel ready.

Ready to start fresh.
Ready to be motivated.
Ready to handle whatever the day brings.

But anxiety doesn’t work on readiness. And neither does healing.

If you woke up today feeling foggy, tense, or already overwhelmed, that doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong. It means your nervous system is waking up and checking for safety — not productivity.

You’re allowed to start the day exactly where you are.

You don’t need clarity before breakfast.
You don’t need confidence before coffee.
You don’t need to know how the whole day will go.

Sometimes the most supportive thing you can do in the morning is stop asking yourself to feel different and instead ask, What would help me feel a little steadier right now?

That might be moving slower.
It might be breathing deeper.
It might be letting today unfold without demanding answers from yourself too early.

January doesn’t require readiness.
It requires patience.

And you’re allowed to give yourself that.

If you’d like something gentle to support you this morning, I’ve shared a free anxiety workbook that helps you understand anxiety and calm the nervous system without pressure or overwhelm. You can explore it whenever it feels right.

💭 How do you usually feel when you first wake up — rushed, tense, numb, calm, or somewhere in between?

  1. today was the usual….trying to crawl further underneath that comforter, and kept turning that alarm to later and later and then just off…..

    1. I find the winter months are always tougher too. The cold, the wind, the gloomy days with no sunshine and the early dark tend to get in my head more.
