Anxiety has a way of making you doubt yourself.

It questions your instincts.
It second-guesses your choices.
It makes you feel like you can’t rely on your own judgment unless you’re completely calm.

But self-trust doesn’t require the absence of anxiety.

You’re allowed to trust yourself even when anxiety is present.

Anxiety Clouds Confidence—Not Capability

When anxiety is active, it distorts how things feel.

Decisions seem heavier.
Sensations feel more alarming.
Thoughts feel more urgent.

That doesn’t mean you’ve lost your ability to cope.

It means your nervous system is loud — not that you’re incapable.

You’ve made it through anxious moments before.
You’ve handled discomfort more times than you can count.
That history still matters, even on hard days.

You Don’t Need Perfect Clarity to Make Choices

A common trap anxiety creates is waiting for certainty.

Waiting until you feel 100% sure.
Waiting until fear disappears.
Waiting until nothing feels uncomfortable.

But life doesn’t usually offer that kind of clarity.

Self-trust is built by making reasonable choices with anxiety present — not by waiting for anxiety to leave first.

You can pause.
You can go slowly.
You can choose the next small step without knowing everything.

Trust Grows Through Kind Responses

Self-trust isn’t built by forcing yourself to “be brave.”

It grows when you respond to yourself with care.

When you listen instead of criticize.
When you rest instead of push.
When you allow anxiety to be there without assuming it’s in charge.

Each kind response tells your nervous system:
I’ve got you.

And that message is powerful.

A Grounding Reminder

Feeling unsure doesn’t mean you’re unsafe.
Feeling anxious doesn’t mean you’re wrong.
Feeling discomfort doesn’t mean you can’t handle what’s in front of you.

You are still you — capable, thoughtful, and allowed to trust yourself.

  1. Yes, I try to do and think as many positive thoughts I can. For me, it’s about building up as many positive thoughts and ideas as I can because anxiety has no problem portraying the negative ones and ‘stacking up’ a slew of them! So I keep thinking positive things so that there are more positive thoughts inside my head than the negative ones!
